Sligo Tennis Club Notes

Ladies Day.

The annual Ladies Day event, sponsored by Ophelia, will go ahead on Sunday next, August 15th.   The list is on the Notice Board and spaces are extremely limited.  Michael Whelan is in charge of catering, and a great day’s tennis and social activity is promised.

The support of Bridie Mc Elhinney, Andrew Deary, and their colleagues at Ophelia is much appreciated.

Club Championships

The Summer is rapidly running out, and Club Championship time is almost upon us.  This tournament is the highlight of the Sligo tennis calendar, and all playing member of the Club are asked to get involved.   Entry forms are available on-line, or at Reception.  Players can select their own partners in the Doubles and Mixed Events, and there is a “Partner Required” sheet on the Notice Board.

Monday 23rd August is the start date, with finals on Saturday 28th.    Closing date for entries is 19th August.

Thanks to the Quinn family and the Embassy Rooms for the continued generous sponsorship of this event.

Presentations of prizes for the Championships, and the Ulster Bank Winter League will take place on the Saturday night, and all winners are asked to attend.

Connacht League

Sligo is represented in all divisions in this year’s Connacht League.  At the halfway stage, all our teams are at the top of the tables, and should make it to the Finals played in September.

Autumn League

The Autumn League will commence in mid-September and the list will be posted on the Notice Board in the coming weeks.

Castlebar Open

Sligo players were out in force at the Castlebar Open, played over the August Week-end.   Alan Mc Cormack gave some powerful displays of quality tennis, and he and Garrett Barry had a magnificent run in the Mens A Doubles, before losing out the to the local pairing of Daniel Gancy and Michael Cuddy.

The Sligo contingent played very well, and gave a good account of themselves, both on and off the courts.
