Sligo Tennis Club Notes
Ladies
Day.
The
annual Ladies Day event, sponsored by Ophelia, will go ahead on
Sunday next, August 15th.
The list is on the Notice Board and spaces are extremely
limited. Michael
Whelan is in charge of catering, and a great day’s tennis and
social activity is promised.
The
support of Bridie Mc Elhinney, Andrew Deary, and their
colleagues at Ophelia is much appreciated.
Club
Championships
The
Summer is rapidly running out, and Club Championship time is
almost upon us. This
tournament is the highlight of the
Sligo
tennis calendar, and all playing member of the Club are asked to
get involved. Entry
forms are available on-line, or at Reception.
Players can select their own partners in the Doubles and
Mixed Events, and there is a “Partner Required” sheet on the
Notice Board.
Monday
23rd August is the start date, with finals on
Saturday 28th. Closing
date for entries is 19th August.

to the Quinn family and the Embassy Rooms for the continued
generous sponsorship of this event.
Presentations
of prizes for the Championships, and the Ulster Bank Winter
League will take place on the Saturday night, and all winners
are asked to attend.
Connacht
League
Sligo
is represented in all divisions in this year’s Connacht
League. At the
halfway stage, all our teams are at the top of the tables, and
should make it to the Finals played in September.
Autumn
League
The
Autumn League will commence in mid-September and the list will
be posted on the Notice Board in the coming weeks.
Castlebar
Open
Sligo
players were out in force at the Castlebar Open, played over the
August Week-end. Alan
Mc Cormack gave some powerful displays of quality tennis, and he
and Garrett Barry had a magnificent run in the Mens A Doubles,
before losing out the to the local pairing of Daniel Gancy and
Michael Cuddy.
The
Sligo contingent played very well, and gave a good account of
themselves, both on and off the courts.
