Sligo Tennis Club appoints a new coaching team to run the club’s tennis coaching programme starting in September.
The coaching team are – Matthew McGann (head coach) and Scott Hubbard (club coach).
Matthew McGann has enjoyed significant success as head coach and director of tennis at the Enniskillen lawn tennis club. Matthew is highly qualified as a level 2 coach, official ITN assessor and cardio tennis coach. He has coached from beginners picking up the racket for the first time all the way through to students competing in international events. Matthew is also a very keen competitor himself and is currently world ranked in the ITF seniors circuit.
Matthew played for Ireland at the world team championships held in Miami, Florida and the world individual championships a few years ago where he won matches that gave him valuable ranking points. Matthew still competes internationally and locally, but his main focus is always on coaching and development. He says that his greatest enjoyment comes from seeing students enjoying playing tennis and working to improve no matter what their standard or ability.
Matthew is delighted to be working with Scott Hubbard at the Sligo tennis club. Scott is a former student of Matthews and with his limited time to spend on court Matthew will be relying on Scott to run the majority of the coaching programmes.
Scott Hubbard has also worked at the Enniskillen tennis club and gained great experience by spending time working as a coach in Greece and then moving on to work in Bahrain for a tennis academy. Scott is now ready to settle down and is delighted to have the opportunity to work at the Sligo Tennis Club.
With Matthew’s experience and Scott’s youth and enthusiasm Sligo Tennis Club are looking forward to a dynamic coaching programme that will cater for all players of all abilities.
Anyone interested in getting involved in any coaching can get in touch with Matthew directly on 089 4996141 or by visiting Sligo Tennis Club or contact us on 071-9162580.
